Timon / Pumbaa Safety Tip Cards
Disney's Wild About Safety cards were available exclusively at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The story goes that on Xmas Eve 1998 Luan Phi Dawson was in line to get on the Columbia Ship attraction and a metal piece broke free. Luan was killed and his wife and ride attendant injured.
Amidst public outcry as to the actual safety of theme park rides, Disney teamed up with Underwriters Laboratories. I imagine it was also a move to protect their collective legal buttocks, though in the end the family ended up settling with Disneyland to the tune of $20,000,000 (which is speculation - actual details were sealed).
As to the actual cards, they were distributed by WDW castmembers and are supplemented with an activity book and brochure.
I've also heard that they were given out as incentives when eating at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
I've heard conflicting reports from numerous resources so to be honest, I'm a little bit clueless here.
What I do know is that I have seen three different faces: Round edge, Square edge, and 10th Anniversary.
I have so many doubles from buying individual cards that this has become a truly exhausting set to collect.
Fun of course, but just a leetle bit tedious.
I'll update when I finally get a clue.
